The BFI London Film Festival, in its 55th year, will close its fifteen-day festival (October 12-27) with the UK premiere of Terence Davies' The Deep Blue Sea. Rachel Weisz, Tom Hiddleston and Simon Russell Beale star in the intense 50s drama, which will premiere in September in Toronto. The BFI London Film Festival, in its 55th year, will close its fifteen-day festival (October 12-27) with the UK premiere of Terence Davies' The Deep Blue Sea. The film's producers, Sean O'Connor and Kate Ogborn, are "deeply honored," adding that "it's very much a London-based film, so it feels just right for the film's first UK outing to be at this wonderful festival. It’s a particular pleasure for us to introduce a new film by Terence Davies - returning to the period and themes of his most celebrated work. All in all, for many reasons, it feels like coming home." Davies says its "sheer heaven" to have his film close the festival, prior to its theatrical release, November 25.

The full slate of the BFI London Film Festival will be announced September 7.

Thompson on Hollywood

Born and raised in Manhattan, Anne Thompson grew up going to the Thalia and The New Yorker and wound up at grad Cinema Studies at NYU. She worked at United Artists and Film Comment before heading west as that magazine's west coast editor. She wrote for the LA Weekly, Sight and Sound, Empire, The New York Times and Entertainment Weekly before serving as West Coast Editor of Premiere. She wrote for The Washington Post, The London Observer, Wired, More, and Vanity Fair, and did staff stints at The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. She eventually took her blog Thompson on Hollywood to Indiewire. She taught film criticism at USC Critical Studies, and continues to host the fall semester of “Sneak Previews” for UCLA Extension.
