An English-subtitled trailer has landed for Palme d'Or winner "Blue Is the Warmest Color," starring Adele Exarchopoulos as a young woman exploring the intense highs and lows of first love with her lesbian girlfriend (played by Lea Seydoux). Watch below.
The film, which boasts lengthy graphic sex scenes, recently received an NC-17 rating. While the realism of these scenes, and the committed performances of the two young actresses, play a big part in Spielberg giving the film Cannes' top prize this past May (he said of director Abdellatif Kechiche, "he let the scenes play as long as they would in real life"), it has also sparked a feminist debate (with critic Manohla Dargis and the author of the comic on which its based, Julie Maroh, leading the way) about issues of male fantasy playing a part in the depiction of the characters' sexual intercourse.
It hits theaters stateside October 25, via Sundance Selects/IFC Films, following a screening at NYFF.
