Christian Bale is reportedly in talks to star in "Everest," with Baltasar Kormakur (Iceland's Oscar entry "The Deep") attached to direct. The Working Title/Universal project centers on the tragic true story of a 1996 expedition during which two groups attempted to reach the mountain's summit. Bale would play New Zealander Rob Hall, who summited the peak five times, but perished along with a guide and two clients during the 1996 adventure which he ran through Adventure Consultants. The story is chronicled in "Into Thin Air," Jon Krakauer's bestselling book. Krakauer was another one of the clients, on assignment from Outside magazine. The film is eying a summer production start in Iceland.

With the Batman suit now put aside, Bale has a duo of Terrence Malick films coming up, as well as Scott Cooper's thriller "Out of the Furnace" and an untitled David O. Russell "Abscam" project (set to star dream team "Silver Linings Playbook" stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, as well as Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Louis C.K.).

- Jason Clark, who broke out in 2012 with his tough role in Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty," is set to star in Fox's "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."  Matt Reeves ("Cloverfield," "Let Me In") will direct. Mum's the word on plot, and it's unclear who Clarke will play. THR reports that the film will be set 15 years after 2011's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," which starred James Franco, Andy Serkis and Freida Pinto. Serkis will reprise his role as intelligent ape Caesar. The film will likely have a spring production start.

Clarke also has Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" in the 2013 pipeline.
