UPDATE: Eva Green will play the lead role of Ava Lord in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's long-gestating "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," a character described in the graphic novels as "every man's most glorious dreams come true, she's also every man's darkest nightmares."

EARLIER: Josh Brolin and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are on board to star in "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For." They join already cast Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosaria Dawson and Jaime King, who were all part of the original ensemble in 2005's "Sin City." Other new cast members for "A Dame to Kill For" include Julia Garner, Dennis Haysbert and Jamie Chung.

Brolin will play "Sin City" regular "Dwight," at a defining point in the character's life. Gordon-Levitt will play Johnny, described as a "cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game." Co-directors Rodriguez and Miller, creator of the original graphic novel "Sin City," state that Johnny is a new character.

After the success of "Sin City" and "300," also based on his graphic novel, Miller went on to try his hand at directing with the ill-fated "The Spirit," based on his comic. The sequel of "300" is also due in 2013, but while Miller penned the novel "300: Rise of an Empire," "300" co-writer Kurt Johnstad does the adaptation, and Zack Snyder is not involved.

Gordon-Levitt had a big year in 2012, with roles in both "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Looper" as well as the flop "Premium Rush." He unveiled "Don Juan's Addiciton," which he wrote, directed and co-stars in with Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore, at Sundance. Brolin starred in recent disappointment "Gangster Squad."
