Sunday marked my first night at the Emmys. The theme of the night, for me as an awards telecast virgin, was a lifting of the veil. I saw things no man should see—unless that man wants his illusions shattered.

Just because Relativity is opening Joseph Gordon-Levitt's anti-porn romantic comedy "Don Jon's Addiction" on October 18 doesn't mean that they're going for an awards push. It's always foolish, in my view, to wear your hopes on your sleeve.

Weinsteins Take Daniels' 'The Butler' for 2013; Ziskin Pursued Project

The Weinsteins have taken US rights to Lee Daniels' indie project "The Butler," which is currently in production in New Orleans. The film stars Forest Whitaker in the title role with Oprah Winfrey as his wife and David Oyelowo as their son. Icon International and IM Global handled foreign sales at Cannes, where the response was upbeat around the world' Weinstein Co. landed the film after first-look player Sony passed.

Denmark Makes Foreign-Language Oscar Submission 'A Royal Affair'

Denmark has selected the Mads Mikkelsen-starring fest favorite "A Royal Affair" as its entry for the 2013 Best Foreign-Language Oscar race. The film premiered in Berlin in February, with recent screenings at Telluride and Toronto. Magnolia releases the film stateside on November 9.
