Oscar-Bound Cate Blanchett Talks Woody Allen's 'Blue Jasmine' (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO)

The Best Actress Oscar is Cate Blanchett's to lose. As she says in our flip cam interview below, many movies with strong female performances will come before the end of the year, but right now her role in Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine" towers over the rest so far, amid a summer season suffering from a lack of women's roles. You just have to keep looking, she says, citing the likes of Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Michelle Williams and Meryl Streep as actresses with enviable careers.

BAFTA Announces New Award Nomination Under Outstanding British Film, to Be Decided by Filmmaker Jury

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has introduced a sixth award nomination under the Outstanding British Film category; five of the nominations will be decided by the opt-in British chapter vote, as usual, and the sixth will be decided by a jury of filmmakers. The 2014 BAFTA Film Awards will be held on February 16.

Screen Actors Guild Sets 2013 Calendar, Submissions Deadlines

Submissions of performances for the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations, which will be announced on Wednesday, December 11 2013, are now open. Submissions will close on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 5 p.m. (PST). The award ceremony will be aired live on TNT and TBS on Saturday, January 18. 2014.

Emmy Watch: 'Scandal' Star Kerry Washington Graces August Vanity Fair Cover

It won't do the "Scandal" Emmy campaign any harm for Kerry Washington to be on the cover of the August issue of Vanity Fair. It's a pretty stunning cover photo by Norman Jean Roy. Contributing editor David Kamp wrote the feature interview with the actress, 36, who grew up in the Bronx and broke out at Sundance in 2001 indie feature "Lift."

It's hard to get into the Academy, but these days it helps to be young, gifted and black. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended invitations to 276 artists and executives to join the organization, rounding out its complete additions for 2013.
