New York Film Critics Circle Goes Back to December Voting; Votes Ahead of National Board of Review UPDATED

One of the key dates in the awards season, the New York Film Critics Circle's voting, has returned to its usual time frame: December 3. The NYFCC is a bellwether of the Oscars and boasts the most impact of any critics group--even the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's popular Golden Globes, which is influential but not nearly as prestigious. Last year the NYFCC winners lined up with Oscar best picture "The Artist," director Michael Hazanavicius, and Best Actress, "The Iron Lady"'s Meryl Streep.

European Film Academy Nominates Five Films for Discovery Award

The European Film Academy has nominated five films for the European Discovery 2012 Award. The EFA bestows the award on a young, up-and-coming director with a first feature-length film. The awards will be given on December 1st.

Golden Globes Picks Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Good call, HPFA! While the Oscars went male with comedy writer-director Seth MacFarlane as their host, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has picked a female comedy duo with sitcom and SNL credentials to host their January 13 Golden Globes awards show on NBC. And both are far better known to the global viewing public than MacFarlane.

Cohen Media Group Acquires U.S. Rights for Spanish Oscar Entry 'Blancanieves'

Cohen Media Group has picked up Pablo Berger's Snow White-turned-1920s matador tale "Blancanieves" for distribution. The film is Spain's official entry for the 2013 Oscars.
