Check out the trailer for "The Inbetweeners," a 2011 UK box office smash being plugged as the "British answer to 'American Pie.'" So, it's British pie? Certainly a nice crashcourse in dirty slang from across the pond...

Arthouse Audit: La Dolce Woody

The recent feast-or-famine pattern among top specialized distributors' releases continues, with "To Rome With Love" joining "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" and "Moonrise Kingdom" as unusually strong platform openings for any time of the year, let alone the usually quieter late spring/early summer period.

Arthouse Audit: 'Your Sister's Sister' and 'Abramovic' Join Summer Specialty B.O. Bonanza

Two women-directed films with solid reviews - "Your Sister's Sister" and "Marina Abramovic - The Artist Is Present" - stood out among the openings, with promising debuts. But the news continues to be ongoing interest in a range of expanding and ongoing releases, giving the specialized market a wider than usual presence for this time of year.

Weekend Preview: Must-Sees Are Shelton's 'Your Sister's Sister' & Art Doc 'Marina Abramovic'

We'll waste no time on "Rock of Ages" (47% rotten) and "That's My Boy" (14% rotten), focusing instead on the two best films opening this weekend. Contrary to its tepid banner ads, Lynn Shelton's "Your Sister's Sister" is refreshingly simple and authentic. Per her improv-based directorial style, stars Mark Duplass (who also starred in her "Humpday"), Emily Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt are a joy to watch as they navigate through a charged romantic triangle involving two sisters.

Arthouse Audit: 'Safety Not Guaranteed' and 'Dark Horse' Trounce 'Lola' and 'Peace, Love and Misunderstanding'

Although none of this week's new specialty films scored great numbers, the two best among NY and/or LA openers came into the market with less advance marketing behind them. Revamped FilmDistrict marked a decent showing for Sundance hit "Safety Not Guaranteed" while Todd Solondz' Venice/Toronto-screened "Dark Horse" boasted a solid gross.

Weekend Box Office: 'Madagascar' Family Sequel Tops Scott's R-Rated 'Prometheus'

Paramount's “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted," the PG family film from DreamWorks Animation, exceeded expectations and easily captured the top spot at the box office this weekend. The mighty combo of a lack of family films in the marketplace and the return of a popular franchise led to an estimated $60.35 million haul.
