Cannes Announces 2012 Short Film Selection: 'The Chair,' 'Night Shift,' 'Yardbird,' 'Souffle,' 'Silent' & More

The official selection of short films competing at Cannes is listed below. The Cinéfondation and Short Films Jury, over which Jean-Pierre Dardenne resides, will reward the best films from the Short Film Competition and the Cinéfondation Selection. Cannes will announce its main competition feature selections April 19.

Tribeca 2012: Irwin Winkler to Preside Over Star-Packed Jury

Producer-director Irwin Winkler ("Rocky," "Goodfellas," "Life as a House") will serve as President of Tribeca 2012's (April 18-29) jury, which includes thirty-nine industry folks and many actors, from vets Patricia Clarkson and Susan Sarandon to Olivia Wilde and Shailene Woodley, as well as filmmakers Michael Moore, Mike Newell, Stuart Blumberg, Lucy Walker and Brett Ratner. Divided into six competitive caterogies, the jurors will chose winners to be announced on April 26 at the Awards Night ceremony hosted by Whoopi Goldberg. The awards will be live streamed here.

Immersed in Movies: A Restored 'Two for the Road' Premieres at the TCM Festival

Of all the restorations being touted at this weekend's third annual TCM Classic Film Festival, the one I'm most excited about is "Two for the Road," screening Friday at the Chinese (with a guest appearance by director Stanley Donen). The Mod, bittersweet, time-warping rom-com from 1967 has Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney at their very best.

Woody Allen Sends Some Roman Love To LA Film Fest

While Woody Allen is skipping Cannes--because "To Rome with Love" is opening April 20 in Italy--he's bringing "To Rome with Love" to Los Angeles to open the LA Film Festival on June 14. It will be its North American premiere.

Cannes Watch: Tim Roth To Lead Un Certain Regard Jury

The Festival du Cannes has named Brit character actor Tim Roth (TV's "Lie to Me") as president of the Un Certain Regard jury. Festival artistic director Thierry Fremaux will announce the sidebar of twenty films, which is part of the Selection Officielle and packed with world premieres, at the same time as the main competition program on April 19.

Lionsgate Completes International Overhaul Before Cannes

As we reported, post January's merger with Summit, Lionsgate has reorganized its international team in the wake of two departing executives. As expected, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairman Patrick Wachsberger will lead the international group at the Cannes market.

Wild Bunch and CAA will sell territories at the upcoming Cannes market for David Gordon Green's remake of the 1977 Dario Argento horror classic, "Suspiria." The film will shoot in September.
