Sundance 2013 Films Will Screen Across Country: 'The East,' 'Aint' Them Bodies Saints'

The Sundance Institute announces titles from its 2013 edition that will screen in indie theaters across the US on January 31 as part of the Sundance Film Festival USA initiative.

It might make sense to try to sleep as much as possible during the 16-hour direct flight from San Francisco to Dubai via Emirates. Especially since one hadn’t slept much the night before, and had dutifully arrived at the check-in counter three hours before departure time, as instructed on one’s e-ticket.

Venice Film Festival Announces 15 Shortlisted Projects for Biennale College-Cinema

Fifteen projects representing 12 countries have been selected for the Venice Film Festival's Biennale College-Cinema. Each team is composed of a director and producer, and will take part in a 10-day workshop held in Venice in January 2013.

Sundance 2013: The Shorts -- Works from Edgerton, Garai, Spurlock and Arriaga in the Mix

The Sundance Film Festival reveals 65 short films chosen for the 2013 programme running January 17-27. They were selected from a record 8,102 submissions, and will screen in US Narrative, International Narrative, Documentary, Animated and New Frontier categories. Head of programming Trevor Groth states: "The selections represent the immensely varied and dynamic approaches to storytelling that will inspire audiences with their huge accomplishments within a limited timeframe.”

Review: 'Killing Them Softly' Has Bold Style, Skips Heartbeat

Andrew Dominik's "Killing Them Softly," adapted from George V. Higgins' 1974 crime novel "Cogan's Trade," takes place in an atrophied post-Katrina New Orleans in 2008. Brad Pitt plays Jackie Cogan, a hitman whose preferred method of execution is explained in the film's updated title.

Sundance 2013: Spotlight, Park City at Midnight, New Frontiers Programs, Focus on Exhibition

Unlike most of the Sundance Film Festival sections this coming January, which largely introduce brand-new films, the Spotlight program screens the best of films that have already been shown around the world. Many are official Oscar submissions, including Sony Pictures Classics releases "Fill the Void" and "No," while their "The Gatekeepers" is in this year's documentary race. Sarah Polley's lauded Telluride/Toronto entry "Stories We Tell" (Roadside) will compete next year.
