Disney Shuts Down LucasArts and Star Wars 1313, Lays Off 150 Employees

After buying Lucasfilm 154 days ago, Disney has closed LucasArts, laying off 150 employees. This is on the heels of cancelling The Clone Wars animated TV series on Cartoon Network and laying off animators at Lucasfilm. This means we will not be seeing the darker and edgier next-gen shooter game, Star Wars 1313, featuring higher quality performance-captured animation from Lucasfilm Animation and VFX from Industrial Light & Magic.

Remembering Prolific Merchant-Ivory Screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, 1927-2013

Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, the prodigiously gifted novelist and prolific screenwriter, Oscar winner for her adapted screenplays "Room with a View" and "Howard's End," has died in Manhattan after a long illness. She was 85.

Watch 'Upstream Color,' 'Sleepwalk with Me' and More Via Sundance Institute's Digital Debut Platform

The Sundance Institute has announced that 12 independent films will make their digital debuts this spring through a variety of platforms to rent, download or stream, via the Institute's Artist Services Program. Included in the list of titles are Shane Carruth's gorgeous head-scratcher and fest favorite "Upstream Color" (which he is self-releasing to theaters April 5), Mike Birbiglia-starrer "Sleepwalk with Me" (a theatrical hit via IFC) and "Unfinished Spaces," a PBS documentary on the groundbreaking design of the National Arts Schools, which was released as an educational film on DVD.

Tim Burton Could Be Back on Track With Artist Biopic 'Big Eyes,' Starring Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz

Tim Burton is on board to direct his next film, "Big Eyes," which will star Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams as Margaret and Walter Keane, whose paintings of big-eyed children were a mass-market phenomenon in the 1950s and '60s. Burton himself uses a similar big, dark-eyed aesthetic in both his animated films and the makeup design in his live-action films.

Warner Bros. is displaying six new character posters for Baz Luhrmann's giddily awaited film, "The Great Gatsby," colorfully adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel. These jazzy posters feature our golden boy anti-hero (Leonardo DiCaprio), Daisy (Carey Mulligan), Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton), Jordan Baker (Elizabeth Debicki) and her beau Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), and Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson.

First Lady Michelle Obama, Harrison Ford and Chadwick Boseman Talk Jackie Robinson Biopic '42' in Student Workshop

First Lady Michelle Obama Tuesday welcomed the cast and crew of upcoming Jackie Robinson biopic "42," starring Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford, along with 80 high school and college students from across the country, to take part in an interactive workshop in Washington DC. Rachel Robinson, Jackie's widow, and Ford, Boseman and director Brian Helgeland led a discussion with the students on the themes and issues of race in the film.
