Disney Confirms 'Star Wars' Spin-Offs for Individual Characters -- Yoda's Up First

Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed during an interview on CNBC that the Mouse House will release "Star Wars" spin-offs based on individual characters. The studio, which acquired Lucasfilm with long-time Steven Spielberg producer Kathleen Kennedy attached as CEO, is wasting no time pushing forward an ambitious agenda to milk the "Star Wars" franchise for all its worth.

Berlin: Content Nabs International Rights to Sundance Award-Winner 'Crystal Fairy,' Starring Michael Cera

Content has acquired international rights for "Crystal Fairy," Chilean director Sebastian Silva's slacker comedy starring Michael Cera that premiered opening night at the Sundance Film Festival.

Different Roads Out of Sundance: 'Bellflower' Team, Brit Marling and Benh Zeitlin

Evan Glodell and his "Bellflower" team are back in the saddle for "Chuck Hank and the San Diego Twins." The multi-hyphenate is handing over directing reins to Jonathan Keevil (who scored "Bellflower") and is serving as producer. They are also reuniting with "Bellflower"'s Tyler Dawson and DP Joel Hodge. They are using IndieGoGo to raise funds; the promo video takes place in a car, just like our interview with them. The film aims to be a surrealist action/drama set unabashedly in the '80s.

Film Independent has announced the filmmakers and projects for its 12th annual Directing Lab. The lab runs February 4 through mid-April, and is an intensive program in Los Angeles designed to assist directors in developing narrative feature films, and to advance their careers in a nurturing and creative environment.

Guillermo Del Toro and 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' Co-Writer Lucy Alibar Team for Universal's 'The Secret Garden'

Guillermo del Toro is a busy man with his hands in many pies. The latest project with his fingerprints on it has landed at Universal, reports Deadline. It's a new film version of Frances Hodgson Burnett's children's classic "The Secret Garden." (One of del Toro's two amigos, Alfonso Cuaron, did a lovely 1995 film version of the author's "The Little Princess.")

On the heels of the release of his Netflix series "House of Cards," folks are wondering if Fincher will return to Sony's lower-budget "The Girl Who Played with Fire," with or without Daniel Craig, or do big-scale "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." Fincher hints that he wants to go small and direct more music videos. He's aiming to team up with Justin Timberlake for his song "Suit and Tie."
