Annenberg Foundation Awards Sundance Institute $1 Million Grant

The Sundance Institute has been awarded a $1 million, three-year grant from the Annenberg Foundation, which will provide support for the Institute's year-round creative and tactical programs for independent film artists. The Annenberg's past support of the Institute, the Film Fellows Program from 2004-2011, helped support projects such as Sean Durkin's "Martha Marcy May Marlene," Dee Rees' "Pariah" and Behn Zeitlin's "Beasts of the Southern Wild."

TIFF Watch: Cohen Media and Focus World Pick Up Doueiri's 'The Attack'

Cohen Media Group and Focus World are joining forces for the North American 2013 release of Ziad Doueiri's "The Attack," a drama-thriller following an Arab surgeon who uncovers a shocking secret about his late wife, a victim of a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv. The film will be a special presentation at Toronto in September.

108 Media Pacts with Paladin to Jointly Release Films in North America (VIDEO)

Toronto sales and distribution company 108 Media is partnering with Mark Urman's New York indie Paladin to jointly release films in North America. The duo will kick off the pact with an initial slate of five recent 108 Media acquisitions to launch through the first quarter of 2013.

Damon, Krasinski & Van Sant's Fracking Drama 'Promised Land' Hits Theaters December 28 for Oscar-Qualifying Run

In the Works: River Road Acquires 'Fordlandia' Rights, Ben Coccio Adapting

Screenwriter Ben Coccio will pen the adaptation of Pulitzer Prize finalist Greg Grandin's "Fordlandia: The Rise And Fall Of Henry Ford's Forgotten Jungle City." River Road Entertainment has acquired the writes and engaged the "Place Beyond the Pines" scribe to reimagine the 2009 book for the big screen. The book looks at the American men who built a utopian American indistrial town in the Brazilian Amazon, as part of Henry Ford's imperialistic machinations. The book's description states "Ford’s great delusion was not that the Amazon could be tamed but that the forces of capitalism, once released, might yet be contained."
