For Don Draper's Backstory, 'Mad Men' Creator Weiner Researched Captains of Industry

The latest episode of "Mad Men" ("The Quality of Mercy") is all about alpha males protecting their territory--in this case, the ad execs in the newly merged agency Sterling Cooper & Partners. Don Draper (Jon Hamm) is undermining and challenging new partner Ted Chaough (Kevin Rahm), who is clearly infatuated with Draper's blossoming one-time protege Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss), while Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser) is trying to dominate upstart Bob Benson (James Wolk).

Emmy Watch: Noah Emmerich Talks TV vs. Movies, 'The Americans'

Actor Noah Emmerich is best-known for his serious film work, from Todd Field's "Little Children" and Peter Weir's "The Truman Show" to Gavin O'Connor's "Pride and Glory." Perhaps because of that film he keeps getting calls to play Irish cops, even though he's a New York Jew, he told me. (His brother Toby Emmerich runs New Line Cinema.)

Critics' Choice Television Award Winners Include 'Game of Thrones,' 'Behind the Candelabra,' Michael Douglas, Elisabeth Moss and More

The winners of the third annual Critics' Choice Television Awards have been announced, following a star-studded gala on June 10. AMC's "Breaking Bad" and HBO's "Game of Thrones" tied for Best Drama Series, while "The Big Bang Theory" won for Best Comedy Series. Elizabeth Moss won a deserved Best Actress in a Movie or Mini-Series award for "Top of the Lake"; Michael Douglas took the Actor award in that category for Steven Soderbergh's "Behind the Candelabra" (which also took Best Movie or Mini-series). 'Game of Thrones' Season Three Finale Nabs Series' Second-Highest Ratings; Surpasses Viewership of 'True Blood'

Fans weren't scared off after last week's bloody "Red Wedding" episode. HBO's "Game of Thrones" scored its second-highest viewership to date for the June 9 finale episode of the series' third season. An estimated 5.4 million GOT fans tuned in for the first telecast, which is up a whopping 30% from last year's finale.

J.J. Abrams to Develop 'Twilight Zone' Maestro Rod Serling's Final Screenplay

J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot banner has finalized a deal with the estate of Rod Serling, sci-fi screenwriter and "Twilight Zone" host, to develop a series based on Serling's unproduced screenplay, "The Stops Along the Way." The script is reportedly the writer's final completed work before his death in 1975. The few bits of gleaned information on it, via Serling's widow, describe it as "a little bit of fantasy, a little bit of imagination... [it] takes place over a long period of time."
