'Top of the Lake' Episode 4 Recap: A Devastating Revelation, and a Simple "Yes/No"

How do the characters in “Top of the Lake” communicate with each other, and how quickly do they choose to divulge information? This is a central question in this week’s episode, which finds significance in both a harrowing, complex monologue and the two most basic written responses in our language.

WATCH: Rare Audition Tapes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman Air on 'Today'

Three anonymous casting directors have put 54 early Hollywood audition tapes on the auction block. On Friday, "The Today Show" aired an amusing reel of these endearingly awkward auditions. Clips include early readings from Leonardo DiCaprio vying for a role in the 1990 TV series "The Outsiders," Brad Pitt auditioning for Ron Howard's 1991 "Backdraft" and Nicole Kidman in a particularly dramatic bid for a part in 1991's "Shattered."

WATCH: Gory Clip from Netflix's 'Hemlock Grove' Shows Werewolf Transformation

Gore alert! It should come as no surprise, coming from gorehound Eli Roth ("Grindhouse," "Hostel") that the latest clip from Netflix's next original series "Hemlock Grove" is not for the faint of heart. The whole horror series is likely to be as eagerly gross as this scene. Produced by Roth, "Hemlock Grove" begins with a "Twin Peaks" premise: when a 17-year-old girl is brutally murdered in a former steel town in Pennsylvania, all of Hemlock's eccentric denizens-- and violent creatures-- are suspects.

'Game of Thrones' Review and Recap, Season Three Episode 1: 'Valar Dohaeris'

As the third season of HBO's epic drama series of back-stabbing ambition and dynastic intrigue, "Game of Thrones," launches on Sunday, it's just possible that the trace elements of generic fantasy in GoT -- a dragon here, some evil sorcery there -- could be jettisoned without much impact on the viewer’s pleasure.

'Top of the Lake' Recap 2: Bringing Out the Dead and Missing

While last week's two-hour premiere of "Top of the Lake" dealt with the blunt one-two shock of a pregnant pre-teen girl and then her disappearance, this week's episode deals with the classic detective-story trope of obsession with a missing person. As is often the case, an obsession with the missing brings out an obsession with the dead.
