The RNC had left some time for a "mystery guest" speaker on Thursday - and Clint Eastwood snagged the spot with a dark and biting satirical complaint. Eastwood pulled an empty wooden chair onto the stage so he could speak to an invisible President Barack Obama about unemployment and other national disgraces. The "Dirty Harry" revival, the empty chair, his admission of tears… well, Eastwood, if you didn't make our day you certainly perplexed us.

Apparently, this instigated a new trend of people posing next to empty chairs and calling it "Eastwooding." The Washington Post published the full transcript and BBC published fellow stars reactions, including the simply-put tweet from Mia Farrow: "What WAS that thing Clint Eastwood just did?"

Earlier this year, Eastwood also made political ripples when he starred in a beautifully shot advertisement for Chrysler beginning with his scratchy declaration: "It's halftime in America, too. People are out of work, and they're hurting. And they're all wondering what they're gonna do to make a comeback. And we're all scared because this isn't a game." This ad came across more as a powerful and bipartisan indictment of America's economic woes rather than a sales pitch. Apparently, halftime is over and Eastwood's interested in joining the playing field for the second half.
