Jennifer Phang's "Advantageous" from Columbia's Graduate Film Program
The Columbia University School of the Arts Film Program is taking its show on the road and bringing its film festival to Los Angeles. The LA version will feature industry networking events, panels, parties, and screenings of the graduate film program’s student work. We previewed and covered the 25th Columbia University Film Festival (CUFF) in NY, which included a panel of women filmmakers.

The best of this year's graduate film program shorts, the Faculty Selects series, will be screened at an open event on June 12 at 7 PM at the DGA Theater.  Films that have been included in Faculty Selects have gone on to play at major film festivals, garnered awards and proved to be the early works of major directors and producers.  The graduate list of Columbia's film program includes Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker"), Ron Nyswaner ("Philadelphia") and Lisa Cholodenko ("The Kids Are All Right"), with faculty that includes Ira Deutchman, Richard Pena, James Schamus, Milos Forman, Martin Scorsese, Annette Insdorf, Emir Kusturica and Paul Schrader.

Advantageous was not directed by a Columbia student, though it was produced by one. Just FYI...
