Fact is, we have fairy tale fatigue. But something about "Snow White and the Huntsman" did catch our eye: its gorgeous, haunting costumes.  The trailer for Rupert Sanders' upcoming translation of the Grimm's story shows earthy, exquisite, architectural clothing.  The credit goes to Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood ("Chicago," "Memoirs of a Geisha," and "Alice in Wonderland").

Snow White Costume

Atwood envisioned a Snow War who is quite the opposite of the prim, rosy-cheeked doll from Disney's iconic 1937 version. Kristen Stewart's character is a soldiering, warrior princess, not a girlish figurine.

Atwood kept the puffy sleeves as homage to the fair Disney princess, she details in a Vanity Fair write-up.  For a more realistic grit, she used earthen, olive hues to blend in with the forested surroundings. While Chris Hemsworth's costume is manly and rugged, the Queen (Chralize Theron) gets the most incredible costume work.  Her transformational cloak, which evaporates into a flock of birds in the film, took a milliner four weeks of sewing feathers.

More about Atwood's detailed process for "Snow White and the Huntsman" here.  The film premieres June 1.
