Kelsey Grammer
For the first time, actor-director Kelsey Grammer will host the 64th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles. While the DGA and Oscar nominees do not always match up exactly, the DGA film winner is almost always the Oscar winner. The two have not synced up only six times since 1948.

Thus Hollywood is eagerly awaiting news of the five Feature Film nominees, which the DGA will announce on Monday, January 9, 2012. The Television and Commercials nominees follow on January 10, and the Documentary nominees on January 12.

I can call four DGA slots right now: Michel Hazanavicius ("The Artist"), Alexander Payne ("The Descendants"), Martin Scorsese ("Hugo") and Steven Spielberg ("War Horse"), with relative outsider Bennett Miller ("Moneyball") duking it out for the fifth spot with veteran Woody Allen ("Midnight in Paris"). On the tonier Academy side, Terrence Malick could take the fifth slot away from Allen or Miller.

"Boss" star Grammer is a DGA member who was nominated for a DGA Award for outstanding directing in a Comedy Series for the “Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz” episode of "Frasier."  He has directed some 40 episodes of Frasier, as well as many other TV series.
