DiCaprio to Join Gonzalez Iñárritu's 'The Revenant' for New Regency

New Regency CEO Brad Weston is feeling his oats. Remember, this company took the risk of actually financing "12 Years a Slave," which was produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B and released by Fox Searchlight. This upset Paramount, which then lost Plan B to New Regency, which is housed at Twentieth Century Fox. New Regency is not only going forward with David Michod's "The Operators" as a Pitt starring vehicle, but now they've got Leonardo DiCaprio starring in Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu's next, "The Revenant."

New Regency CEO Brad Weston is feeling his oats. Remember, New Regency took the risk of actually financing "12 Years a Slave," which was produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B and released by Fox Searchlight. This upset Paramount, which then lost Plan B to New Regency, which is housed at Twentieth Century Fox.

New Regency is going forward with David Michôd's "The Operators" as a Pitt starring vehicle, and now they've got Leonardo DiCaprio starring in Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu's next, "The Revenant."

Both projects are being co-financed by Brett Ratner's company RatPac; "The Revenant" comes from Steve Golin's Anonymous Content will be co-financed as well by World Entertainment.

Adapted by Mark L. Smith and Gonzalez Iñárritu from Michael Punke's novel "The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge," the film is set to start production this September with a fall 2015 release planned through New Regency’s distribution deal with Fox. Golin, Keith Redmon and David Kanter will produce the film along with Iñárritu, Arnon Milchan and James Skotchdopole. Executive producer is Paul Green.

The role of 19th century fur trapper Hugh Glass in survival tale "The Revenant" is DiCaprio's follow-up to his Oscar-nominated performance in “The Wolf of Wall Street” with the role of Hugh Glass in “The Revenant.” After Glass is mauled by a grizzly bear, he's left for dead and robbed. Needless to say he heads out to exact his revenge.

This is New Regency’s second collaboration with Gonzalez Iñárritu. They co-financed with Fox Searchlight and Worldview Entertainment his next, “Birdman,” starring Michael Keaton, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone and Naomi Watts, which will be released on October 17.

New Regency has some other hot titles coming up, from David Fincher film "Gone Girl," which Fox opens on October 3, followed by Cameron Crowe’s Untitled Film financed by RatPac Entertainment, which Sony opens on Christmas Day. The company is in pre-production on several 2015 releases including the Tom Hardy starrer “Splinter Cell," directed by Doug Liman and slated for a late summer start, financed by Ubisoft, which is also backing “Assassin’s Creed” starring Michael Fassbender, which still needs a director.
