Now that Paul Rudd has officially been cast as "Ant-Man" in Edgar Wright's upcoming Marvel film, a few things are coming into focus. This casting suggests that Wright is going for a comedic tone -- not too surprising.

'The World's End' Q & A: Wright, Pegg and Frost Get Tough (Featurette)

Edgar Wright hit Comic-Con's Hall H twice with his Visionaries panel as well as a "The World's End" (August 21) presentation with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, stars of the ice cream trilogy that began with "Shaun of the Dead" and continued with "Hot Fuzz." This trilogy conclusion will be it, Wright says--if the friends work together again it will be on something new. As for Marvel's "Ant Man," Wright's finally ready to embrace new technology to excite us "one inch at a time"--in 2015.

'The Butler' and 'We're the Millers' Continue Strong at Box Office, 'World's End' Could Be Wright's Biggest Grosser

Unlike some who find reporting on this kind of weekend not worth their time or analysis, there's a lot going on. For one thing, by Sunday the year's box office will officially be ahead of last year. For another, two solid late summer entries, "The Butler" and "We're the Millers," both held well to take the top two positions with signs of more success ahead. And three diverse new openers had variable success, led by Edgar Wright's acclaimed "The World's End" at just over 1,500 screens.

Comic-Con Visionaries Talk Realizing 'Gravity' and 'Amazing Spider-Man' in 3-D, Staging Fights in 'World's End,' Long Takes, 3-D and Future of Film (TRAILERS)

The high point of the annual EW Comic-Con Visionaries panel with Alfonso Cuaron ("Gravity"), Marc Webb ("The Amazing Spider-Man") and Edgar Wright ("The World's End") moderated by Anthony Breznican was an exchange on the aesthetics of long takes and bringing reality into fantasy on film.
