What's Next for Lupita Nyong'o? 'Star Wars'!

With the Academy Awards in the cultural rearview mirror, many of us wondered when and how we'd see a preternatural talent, and first-time Oscar winner, like Lupita Nyong'o on the big screen again. On Oscar night, the Mexican-born, Kenyan-raised Yale graduate who swept awards season with her sublime performance in "12 Years a Slave" basked in the limelight in her stunning blue gown. What would her follow-up be? Well, it turns out those casting rumors that JJ Abrams was circling Nyong'o for a role in his upcoming "Star Wars" reboot are true.

Immersed in Movies: J.J. Abrams Talks 'Star Wars,' Storytelling, Tech at PGA Conference

J.J. Abrams said at Saturday's PGA Produced By Conference that he's aiming for the same "deep feeling of infinite possibilities" with "Star Wars: Episode VII" that he got watching George Lucas' original blockbuster as a youngster. He told "Django Unchained" producer Reginald Hudlin that it's about "honoring but not revering the past" during their Q&A at Fox. But other than admitting that his boys aren't thrilled about moving to London next year to make "Star Wars" ("Fuck that -- I don't care what the movie is"), Abrams kept everything else about it close to the vest.

WATCH: 7-Minute Video on the Making of 'Star Trek: Into Darkness'

Unlike most promo featurettes, Paramount Pictures' seven minutes of behind-the-scenes footage on the making of "Star Trek: Into Darkness" isn't glossily spliced with interviews. It actually tries to capture what it was like during filming on the set of the J. J. Abrams' film. (It's not completely spoiler free: watch with caution.)

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Preview Report: Producer Bryan Burk Talks Promo Tour, Franchise Future

Friday in London, Paramount Pictures screened an extended look at "Star Trek Into Darkness" at the BFI IMAX cinema, introduced by producer Bryan Burk and including the opening 28 minutes of the film plus two other extended sequences. What they showed of J.J. Abrams’ belated sequel, which arrives four years after he rebooted the franchise with 2009’s "Star Trek," was thrilling stuff, even if you don’t count yourself a colossal (or even casual) Trekkie. That, as Burk explained in his intro to the footage, has always been their primary goal with this sequel: to make a film that appeals across the board.
