Fox Searchlight and Red Flag Debut Busy Duplass Bros' 'The Do-Deca-Pentathlon' On VOD

Writer-directors Jay and Mark Duplass headed into SXSW with an unusual distribution deal for their long-in-the-works micro-budget brother comedy "The Do-Deca-Pentathlon." They set it up at both Fox Searchlight, which released "Cyrus," and indie Red Flag Releasing. The VOD release date is June 26, and a theatrical release follows July 6.

Duplass Brothers Kidnap Hollywood and The New York Times Magazine

They call each other Dupes and keep their brotherly spirit at the fore. In a New York Times Magazine profile of the Mark and Jay Duplass, Gavin Edwards details the pair's evolution from a budget of $3 (2002's "This is John") to $40 million comedies. Their partnership is thrilling to watch (our video interview with Jay and Mark here). As Edwards writes, "While rock ’n’ roll brothers (the Davies, the Gallaghers) seem to thrive on fistfights, filmmaking brothers (the Coens, the Farrellys) often achieve a state of mind-meld."

SXSW Interview: Duplass Brothers Talk 'Jeff,' 'The Do-Deca-Pentathlon' and Career Plan (Video)

Writer-directors Jay and Mark Duplass headed into SXSW with an unusual distribution deal for their long-in-the-works micro-budget brother comedy "The Do-Deca-Pentathlon." They set it up at both Fox Searchlight, which released "Cyrus," and Red Flag Releasing, a small indie run by ex-Warner Independent execs Laura Kim and Paul Federbush, who are able to do day-and-date VOD in a way that the studio cannot without straining relationships with exhibitors. The Duplasses figure they are getting the best of both possible worlds.
