My most recent online time-waster (along with Flickchart) is Formspring, which asks you questions and posts your answers on various social media. For example, when asked to name my top ten directors of all time, I came up with this list:

TCA: HBO Unveils New Material from Scorsese, Lee, Mann, Haynes and Milch

Saturday's HBO panel at TCA was full of news on much-anticipated projects from Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, Michael Mann, Todd Haynes and David Milch. Amy Dawes reports:A new slate heavy on cross-over cinema talent and enlivened by the antics of wild card talents like Carrie Fisher and Spike Lee was presented late Saturday by HBO, clearly the big dog at the cable portion of the TCA press tour, to finish out the biannual event.

Sheen Heads for Jail, Fuqua Biopics Shakur, Anderson Casts Scientology Film, Boardwalk Empire Pops

Charlie Sheen is choosing 30 days of jail time over probation, which was too risky, reports TMZ. In a plea bargain, Sheen will plead no contest to third-degree misdemeanor assault for hitting his wife Brooke Mueller on Christmas Day and immediately start to serve what will likely amount to 17 days in jail in Aspen, Colorado. He has to complete 36 hours of anger management before the hearing June 7. Mueller and Sheen both went into rehab following the incident, and Sheen took off time from his hit TV show Two and a Half Men. He'll get his time out of the way before filming begins in early August. The show has been renewed for two seasons; Sheen now earns a reported $2 million an episode.

Lohan in Court, Monjack found dead, Zuckerberg on Facebook privacy, Scorsese's Sinatra

Entertainment News:- Lindsay Lohan's video denying drug use and claiming to be in full compliance with court orders did not save her from a Beverly Hills judge Monday, who ordered her to refrain from alcohol, undergo weekly blood tests and wear an alcohol detection bracelet. Lohan's lawyer said she had proof that the actress had airline tickets and missed the May 20th hearing due to a lost passport, and declined the judge's offer to spend thirty minutes reading the list of reasons for the sentencing.

Cannes Adds Jurors Denis, Garcia Bernal, Mezzogiorno, Egoyan

The Festival de Cannes announces that filmmaker Claire Denis (White Material) will preside over the Un Certain Regard jury. I have also learned that Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal (whose new Spanish film Even the Rain is tagged for possible inclusion in the fest) and Italian actress Giovanna Mezzogiorno (Vincere) will join Tim Burton's competition jury, while Canadian writer-director Atom Egoyan (Chloe) will preside over the Cinefondation Jury. UPDATE: Cannes announced that Garcia Bernal will head the jury for the Camera d’Or, honoring the best first features.

Trailer Watch: Scorsese's Boardwalk Empire

Many top directors are turning to HBO. Given the level of interest in quality dramas for adults at the studios, who wouldn't? HBO's the last place willing to spend big bucks for that kind of cinema.

Weekend Box Office: Alice in Wonderland Beats Spider-Man and Iron Man Openings

In his first TOH Sunday domestic/international box-office report, ex-Variety numbers analyst Anthony D'Alessandro checks in with the studios behind this weekend's b.o. juggernaut, led by Disney's Alice in Wonderland---which proves yet again why studio marketers keep chasing the perfect match: branded family title + proven visual master + global movie star=blockbuster.

Shahrukh Khan Hits America, Berlin, Meets Leo DiCaprio

Shahrukh Khan is everywhere these days. He gave an interview for NPR on his recent swing through America to promote his latest, My Name is Khan, which Fox Searchlight opened strongly this weekend as it debuted in Berlin. The big question is whether this Bollywood superstar will ever make the move to star in a Hollywood movie. While the studios are chasing him, like fellow star Aamir Khan, he's got it pretty good back home, where Bollywood's insular filmmaking community is a family affair.

Oscar Duel: Has Quentin Tarantino Produced a Legacy of Greatness?

Oscar Duel: Has Quentin Tarantino Produced a Legacy of Greatness?
During a public appearance in London last month, Quentin Tarantino told the audience that with Inglourious Basterds, he is now an auteur; he has established a body of work that can be analyzed as a whole and as a product of his unique vision. Recalling his experiences watching the films of Howard Hawks, he said: "My aim is that some kid in 50 years time has the same experience with me and my films." In this dueling blog, Moviefone's Jack Mathews and I debate whether QT's films actually form a body of work or remain a work in progress.

BNAT Wrap: Kick-Ass Beat Avatar as Best-Received Film

BNAT Wrap: Kick-Ass Beat Avatar as Best-Received Film
At the end of the 24-hour marathon of films at his annual Butt-Numb-A-Thon (BNAT), AICN web master Harry Knowles asked the 200 or so folks at the Alamo Drafthouse to declare their best film of the fest. Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass got a bigger response than Avatar, though both had their fans and it was hardly a scientific survey. (The comics action spoof Kick-Ass comes out April 16.) It should be pointed out that Avatar closed the fest. (James Cameron made sure the BNAT attendees had the right 3D glasses.)
