15 Must-See Modern Noirs (CLIPS)

The noir since 1960 is like pornography: it's hard to describe, but you know it when you see it. With "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" in theaters, it may be time to tackle the question more directly. To paraphrase Paul Schrader, what is a (modern) film noir?

Tarantino to Shoot 'The Hateful Eight' After All? (FULL CANNES VIDEO)

Quentin Tarantino admitted at his Cannes press conference (below) that he had "calmed down" over his outrage that his script for western "The Hateful Eight" had been leaked online. His staged live read of the 146-page first draft in Los Angeles went well. He closed Cannes with Sergio Leone's "A Fistful of Dollars" and reportedly may shoot "The Hateful Eight" after all.

Quentin Tarantino isn't done battling Gawker over "The Hateful Eight" script. Though the director's original suit against the website was dropped on April 22, he is reopening the case as of Thursday. Tarantino once again argues that Gawker, in an act of "predatory journalism," infringed his copyright by linking to an unauthorized PDF of the script on its Defamer site.

Once in a Lifetime 'The Hateful Eight' Live Read with "Tarantino superstars!"

"These are the Tarantino superstars!" the writer-director cried. The audience roared to its feet as already announced Tarantino regular Samuel L. Jackson strode onto the stage, script tucked under his arm, all in black with a black straw hat and a cigarette. He dominated the proceedings as a pipe-smoking "bald Lee Van Cleef type," ex-Cavalry major Marquis Warren, who enjoyed fighting for the Union and wiping out "white southern crackers," but now functions as a bounty hunter who prefers to bring in his quarry dead rather than alive.
