Director Ron Howard and daughter/actress Bryce Dallas Howard have teamed up to jump on the user-generated content bandwagon with the new film contest for Canon, "Project Imaginat10n." A number of celebrity directors are getting involved in the project, including Eva Longoria, James Murphy, Georgina Chapman and Jamie Foxx, who recently starting shooting his short film in Brooklyn.

Warner Bros. is fishing for Ron Howard to direct 19th century drama "In the Heart of the Sea," based on National Book Award winner Nathaniel Philbrick's novel. Chris Hemsworth is already on board to star as a sailor on the Essex, the doomed sea vessel which inspired Herman Melville's "Moby Dick."

Universal Pictures has solidified release dates on several 2013 openings including Ron Howard's latest, "Rush" (September 20), Guillermo del Toro thriller presentation "Mama" (January 18) and Tom Cruise sci-fi epic "Oblivion," which will move up from April 26 to April 19, 2013.

One of the signs of changing times is seeing an A-list director like Ron Howard pushing a project at the American Film Market. The co-head of Imagine Entertainment went to Santa Monica to push Rush, his Formula 1 racing film, with foreign buyers.

Nigel Sinclair and Guy East’s Exclusive Media Group (The Way Back) is co-producing and co-financing the picture with Brian Oliver’s Cross Creek Pictures, Imagine, Revolution Films and Working Title, which produced Formula 1 fan Eric Fellner’s racing doc Senna, which shows how cinematic this kind of movie can be. The film’s screenwriter Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) is also a producer on Rush, along with Andrew Eaton. Universal Pictures will release the film, which is currently filming with stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds), stateside in 2012.
