Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Discovery and USC Partner to Support Student Filmmaking

Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are setting their sights once more on the young and tech savvy. USC's School of Cinematic Arts and New Form Digital -- a studio created from Discovery Communications, Howard and Grazer -- are partnering on a year-long program that will support the distribution of student-made programming.

If The Beatles have never been anything less than ubiquitous, their role in the film world still seems to be growing larger with each passing month. Variety report that Ron Howard, under a partnership between Imagine Entertainment, Apple Corps. Ltd., and White Horse Pictures, will direct a currently untitled documentary.

Daniel Brühl Talks Formula 1 Star Niki Lauda, 'Rush' and 'The Fifth Estate' (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO)

Spanish/German star Daniel Brühl not only co-starred with Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Fifth Estate," the opening night film at the Toronto International FIlm Festival, but with Chris Hemsworth in another international story based on real people, "Rush," directed by Ron Howard. Written by Peter Morgan (Howard's "Frost/Nixon") and produced by Imagine and Working Title, "Rush" could make Brühl a star, especially if he nabs awards attention for his portrait of the fiercely competitive Austrian Formula 1 driver.

Arthouse Audit: 'Enough Said' Scores Big for Searchlight, 'Rush' Decent for Universal

The race to open films shown at the Telluride and Toronto film festivals began with two significant platform releases. This sets the pattern from now until the end of the year. Leading the way was Fox Searchlight's "Enough Said," with a surprisingly stellar gross, driven by rave reviews and curiosity about the late James Gandolfini's second to last film. It outpaced the other new limited opening, Universal's action biopic "Rush," which with top-end urban moviegoer appeal grabbed a decent sampling to go with its strong festival reaction and decent reviews.
