Tim Burton's animated "Frankenweenie" doesn't arrive until October 5, but check out the new trailer (as well as the original 1984 thirty minute live-action short film, which launched Burton's career), below. Last year, many cities (including LA and NY, at LACMA and MoMA respectively) were treated to a retrospective exhibition of Tim Burton's work, from his early sketches and notebooks to the costume worn by Johnny Depp in "Edward Scissorhands."

Bringing Burton’s World to Life: LACMA Hosts Collaborators, Screens 70mm Scissorhands

On October 21, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is hosting a Behind-the-Scenes panel, "Bringing Burton’s World to Life," with key Tim Burton collaborators. Oscar-winning composer Danny Elfman, costume designer Colleen Atwood, and art director, sculptor, installation designer and production designer Rick Heinrichs will participate on a panel about transforming Burton’s vision from concept to three-dimensional film reality, moderated by Ron Magliozzi, Associate Curator, MoMA Department of Film and co-organizer of the Tim Burton exhibition. Their films range across Vincent, Beetlejuice, Batman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood and Edward Scissorhands, which will be shown in 70mm, a rare screening.

With Johnny Depp background and center as a centuries-old vampire, this "family photo" from the upcoming Dark Shadows film, directed by Tim Burton, reveals an unearthly ensemble. D23 Expo Adds Two New Pixar Pics on Dinosaurs and the Inner Mind, Promos John Carter, The Avengers

The warmth in the Anaheim Convention Center Hall at D23 for Pixar and Disney animation czar John Lasseter was expressed, loudly, with a standing ovation. Also getting one was Billy Crystal (make him Oscar host already!), who's back with John Goodman in Disney/Pixar sequel Monsters University (2013). Borrowing a few pages from Comic-Con, Disney is using its direct relationship with fans and marketing synergy to promote its characters and products at its huge three-day D23. Not getting as warm a welcome as Lasseter was Disney chairman Rich Ross, who still seemed stiff in front of the teleprompters, even when he cried, "cupcakes for everyone!"
