Sixteen Classic Werner Herzog Films Will Be Streaming on Fandor

Herzog fans, rejoice. Fandor has attained exclusive streaming rights for no less than 16 (!) of the German auteur's films. "Aguirre the Wrath of God" has its bow on April 10, with one new title launching each week through July 2014.

Les Blank Friends Bid Documentarian a Festive Farewell (November 27, 1935 -- April 7, 2013)

Of course it's a cliche to say that the honoree at a memorial service would have enjoyed it -- but in Les Blank's case, it's impossible to avoid. The party was designed by Les' two sons, Harrod and Beau, and Team Blank, a host of friends and supporters, to encompass many of the pursuits that Les delighted in and made the subject of his films, such as irresistibly catchy music and delicious strong-flavored food, as well as rituals designed to honor Les and allow his friends and colleagues to say goodbye.

Watch: Wim Wenders' 1982 Documentary 'Room 666' Talks with Godard, Herzog, Fassbinder, Spielberg, Antonioni and More

Check out this strangely hypnotic stream-of-thought documentary essay, "Room 666," made by Wim Wenders at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival. The 44-minute film features thoughts on cinema from an impressive roster of filmmakers: Jean-Luc Godard, fellow New German Cinema directors Werner Herzog and Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Michelangelo Antonioni and Steven Spielberg, among others. In an unsettling turn of events, Fassbinder would die of a drug overdose mere weeks after these interviews were shot. (The 31st anniversary of his death was June 10.)
