Robert De Niro Steps Out, for His Festival, His Father and the Friars Club's Top Award

We all know that Robert De Niro is a far better screen actor than he is public figure. Journalists dread interviews with the famously monosyllabic star. But this year De Niro is suddenly everywhere: at Tribeca, his New York film festival, hawking the Tribeca-produced Sundance documentary about his artist father, "Remembering the Artist Robert De Niro, Sr.," which is airing on HBO, and accepting a rare honor from The Friars Club in New York.

HBO Makes News at TV Critics Panel

HBO brought a raft of star power to the opening day of the winter Television Critics Press Tour (TCA) Thursday afternoon, presenting Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, stars of the brooding Louisiana-set crime series “True Detective,” which premieres Sunday, along with Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts and Taylor Kitsch from the cast of HBO movie “The Normal Heart” and quite a few others.

Spike Lee Shoots Stage Show 'Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth' for HBO

Spike Lee has been shooting docs as well as features for some time, so it's no surprise that the filmmaker should take his latest joint, stage show "Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth," to HBO Films, where he made his acclaimed doc series "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts" in 2006. Lee will shoot his and Tyson’s hit one-man Broadway stage show in July for debut on the network later in the year.
