'Room 237' Review: Why I Hated, Then Admired 'Shining' Doc

A funny thing happened on the way to reviewing “Room 237.” When I first watched Rodney Ascher’s documentary about fanatical theories on Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining,” I found it so patience-testing and angering that I had to turn it off at the halfway point. When I watched it a second time, obligated for reviewing purposes to watch it through its conclusion, I was slowly yet surely drawn into its heady, dreamlike and often absurd layers. What gives?

IFC Midnight Acquires Brandon Cronenberg's 'Antiviral,' Father and Son Interview at Cannes (VIDEO)

The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree. Thus Brandon Cronenberg, whose debut feature "Antiviral" premiered in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, shares plenty of horror DNA with his father David, who admitted during a Cannes father-son interview with Toronto Film Festival's Cameron Bailey that they both share an interest in the natural world.

IFC Midnight Takes US and UK Rights to 'As Luck Would Have It'

IFC Midnight acquired all US and UK rights to director Alex De La Iglesia’s "As Luck Would Have it." The film world premiered at a special screening at this year's Berlin Film Festival. It will premiere in North America at this year's Tribeca Film Festival in the Spotlight Section.

'Room 237' Goes to IFC Midnight; Doc Investigates Theories on Kubrick's 'The Shining'

IFC Midnight has picked up Rodney Ascher's documentary, "Room 237," for North American distribution. The film, which premiered at Sundance, is about theories and controversies surrounding Stanley Kubrick's film "The Shining," based on Stephen King's novel.

Drunken Irish Alien Flick 'Grabbers' Goes to IFC Midnight

IFC Midnight is taking Jon Wright's "Grabbers" for North and Latin American distribution. The film, which debuted at Sundance, stars Richard Coyle, Ruth Bradley, Russell Tovey, Lalor Roddy, David Pearse, and Bronagh Gallagher. IFC Films/Sundance Selects' Jonathan Sehring calls the film "a great time at the movies and an ingenious update of the classic monster movie." Variety says it is "polished, watchable genre entertainment" and it currently has a B- on CriticWire. Check out the synopsis below:
