TIFF: Magnolia Acquires 'The Brass Teapot,' in which Temple and Angarano Strike Deal with Dishware

Magnolia Pictures has picked up distribution rights for "The Brass Teapot," starring Juno Temple and Michael Angarano, following the film's debut at TIFF. The black comedy follows a broke newlywed couple who discover a magical teapot that rewards physical pain with cash.

There's usually a deal in the offing when you see a street huddle after a screening of a Toronto title with advance buzz. Oscar Watch: Magnolia Juggles Mads Mikkelsen's 'Royal Affair,' 'The Hunt'

It's a Mads Mads Mads world. In May at Cannes, Mads Mikkelsen won Best Actor for his stunning performance as an ostracized, falsely accused pederast in Thomas Vinterberg's "The Hunt," which was swiftly acquired by Magnolia Pictures. That distributor has been specializing in Scandinavian fare of late, turning "Headhunters" into a smarthouse hit.

Magnolia's on a Roll, from 'Jiro Dreams of Sushi' and 'Marley' to Twisty Stylish Thriller 'Headhunters'

"Headhunters" is a smart pick-up. It's basically the most commercial movie Norway has to offer, based on Joe Nesbo's global detective bestseller, starring rising star Aksel Hennie ("Max Manus") and Danish "Game of Thrones" baddie Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and directed with style by top commercial director Morten Tyldum.

Amazon Adds 'Melancholia,' '13 Assassins' and More Magnolia Goodies to Prime Instant Video Library

Amazon is adding a slew of Magnolia Pictures titles to its Prime Instant Video library. "Melancholia," "13 Assassins" and "Page One: Inside the NY Times" are a few of the Magnolia standouts available for streaming to Prime members on the site.
