SXSW Deal: Oscilloscope Takes Comedy 'Buzzard' by Joel Potrykus (TRAILER)

A few days shy of the 2014 edition of SXSW, Oscilloscope has nabbed comedy "Buzzard," set to make its world premiere at the fest on March 8. Directed by Joel Potrykus, it follows a small-time scam artist who finds himself on a strange journey to Detroit, with only bad checks, a Nintendo Power Glove and his own grumpiness to keep him company.

Oscilloscope Acquires Indie 'Breakup at a Wedding,' Produced by Zachary Quinto

Oscilloscope Laboratories -- currently rolling out Matteo Garrone's Cannes hit "Reality" across the US -- announced today its acquisition of "Breakup at a Wedding," the debut feature by short film director Victor Quinaz. The film will be released June 18th across all VOD platforms, with select screenings and a college tour beforehand.

Oscilloscope Nabs SXSW Documentary '12 O'Clock Boys' -- 'The Wire' Meets Cirque du Soleil

Oscilloscope Laboratories has picked up North American rights to Lofty Nathan's documentary "12 O'Clock Boys," which recently had its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. The Boys of the title are an infamous dirt bike gang in Baltimore who take over major city streets with flashy stunts at high speeds, alluding the cops' "no chase" rule due to public safety measures. Media Watch: No Cameron 'Prometheus' In Sight; Deadline Falls for April Fool's Prank

Beware of April Fool's announcements. (I loved FoxLA's story about drought-ridden California farmers planting marshmallow trees, below.) While plans to make an Ashton Kutcher/Steve Jobs project appear to be in earnest, Deadline's Mike Fleming did fall for a report that James Cameron wants to direct a "Prometheus" sequel.
