Who Needs an Oscar Nod? 'Gloria' Scores Strong Initial Numbers Along with 'Stranger by the Lake' and 'Visitors'

The new year has its first subtitled success with the strong opening of Chile Oscar submission "Gloria" (Roadside Attractions), which did not make the Foreign Language shortlist. Opening with a higher per screen average than "No," Chile's nominee last year (starring Gael Garcia Bernal), "Gloria" benefited from strong reviews.

Strand Releasing Acquires Matt Porterfield's Sundance and Berlin Entry 'I Used to Be Darker'

Strand Releasing has picked up all US rights to Matt Porterfield's Boston-set drama "I Used to Be Darker," which screened at both this year's Sundance and Berlin International film festivals.

Strand Takes Eytan Fox's 'Yossi'; Heading to Fall Fests Prior to 2013 Release

Strand Releasing takes North American rights to Israel's "Yossi," from director Eytan Fox. The film, which debuted at Tribeca to strong reviews, is the director's follow up to "Yossi & Jagger," and features Ohad Knoller again in the titular role. In "Yossi," he plays a lonely workaholic doctor in Tel Aviv who is sent on vacation by his boss; when he meets a group of soldiers, he is shaken awake.
