Unstoppable 'Spectacular Now' Director James Ponsoldt to Adapt 'Pippin' for TWC

Adding to an already overstuffed plate, James Ponsoldt, director of Sundance hits "The Spectacular Now" and "Smashed," has signed on to write the big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical "Pippin" for The Weinstein Company.

Big Year Ahead for TWC's Festival Darling 'Fruitvale Station' (See New Poster)

The first poster for the Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner "Fruitvale Station" has been unveiled. TWC's indie drama has already proven to be a festival darling, as the film will screen in Cannes' Un Certain Regard sidebar, before the film hits theaters July 12.

Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner 'Fruitvale' Changed to 'Fruitvale Station'

The Weinstein Company has announced that the title of its July 26-slated true crime drama, "Fruitvale," has changed to "Fruitvale Station." "Fruitvale" was a hit at Sundance earlier this year, winning the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize.

Weinstein Lines Up Oscar Slate, First Reactions to 'August: Osage County,' Starring Streep

First reactions are coming in for the Weinsteins' "August: Osage County," an adaptation of Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize-winning play with director John Wells at the helm. TWC production exec Ben Famiglietti told Harvey Weinstein that the 190-page play was "the best writing ever out of Chicago," Weinstein recalled at a Sundance panel. "It was amazing, we invested in the play, which means getting movie rights. It stars Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, is produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov."

Weinstein Co. Begins Production on 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' Sequel in May

The Weinstein Company will reportedly start production in May on a sequel to Ang Lee's Oscar-winning "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." Lee is not returning to helm the film; directing reins will instead go to veteran Chinese director Ronny Yu.

Weinstein Company Picks Up Bong Joon-Ho's Futuristic Ice Age Thriller 'Snowpiercer'

Ten minutes of AFM footage was enough for the Weinstein Company to scoop up English-speaking rights (including U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa) to South Korean Bong Joon-ho's dystopian "Snowpiercer," an action thriller starring Chris Evans.

Arthouse Audit: Off To the Races With 'The Master' & 'Arbitrage'

Not only did "The Master" (limited) and "Arbitrage" (wider and also available outside of theater viewing) do great business this weekend, they did so at what is usually a slow time of the year. The same weekend in 2011 saw "My Weekend With Margueritte" and "Restless" open to modest at best results. After an unusually strong specialized summer, not only does the fall start off with a bang, but earlier than usual.
