TriStar's Rothman Adds 'Bridesmaids' Scribes Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo to His Starry Roster

Chalk up another win for new TriStar Productions chief Tom Rothman, who is lining up an impressive roster of movies for Sony release. The latest: Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, the writing team behind 2011's groundbreaking "Bridesmaids," are joining forces to write, produce and star in another comedy. The film will also be Wiig's directorial debut, a welcome change, given that of the 129 major films due to be released this year, only four are directed by women.

TriStar Partners with BBC on Bennett and Hytner's 'Lady in the Van' with Dame Maggie Smith

Tom Rothman To Revive TriStar Label

At a time when they have been under some pressure after a string of summer losers, Sony CEO Michael Lynton and SPE co-chairman Amy Pascal are creating a joint venture with Rothman--that means he's putting some of his own skin in the game--and giving him the TriStar Productions label. Rothman will develop, finance and produce motion pictures and television programming for worldwide distribution through Sony Pictures.
