While astute cinephiles can revel this weekend in the theatrical release of Lars von Trier's "Nymphomaniac," two arthouse docs and a grab bag of terrific indies, those looking to keep brain function to a minimum can check out the latest YA franchise hopeful "Divergent." Trailers for all after the jump.

Reviews are all over the map but suffice it to say, the Shailene Woodley vehicle about a dystopian society stratified by personality types is no sure buck like "Hunger Games," which most critics enjoyed. It's up to audiences to decide the fate of "Divergent" and its young, attractive cast rounded out by Theo James, Zoe Kravitz and Miles Teller. Opening gross guesses are in the deluxe $50-60 million range.

The unrated "Volume I" of Lars von Trier's erotic opus "Nymphomaniac" arrives in select theaters today, but you may have already seen the hotly debated, artsy sex epic on VOD from Magnolia Pictures, reportedly doing "very well" with their platform release strategy. (Transparency please!) Enjoy a second helping of this latest collaboration between von Trier and his favorite damsel-in-distress, Charlotte Gainsbourg, with "Volume II" on VOD as well. Its theatrical rollout begins April 4.

We're crazy about E.L. Katz's viscera-splattered gorefest "Cheap Thrills," which is about as nihilistic as genre cinema gets. The midnight movie starring Pat Healy ("Compliance") struck a chord with audiences at SXSW 2013, where it won an Audience Award. Also hot off last year's festival circuit comes micro-budget teen romance "It Felt Like Love," a delicately subtle debut feature from writer/director Eliza Hittman. For those who seek a more muscular outing, mafia pic "Rob the Mob," starring "Boardwalk Empire" heartthrob Michael Pitt, hits select cities fresh off its Miami Film Festival premiere.

Meanwhile, two docs off the fest circuit arrive in NY and LA this weekend: Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh's Foreign Language Oscar nominee "The Missing Picture," a tour de force of stop-motion animation and verite truth-telling, and "Jodorowsky's Dune," about the titular Chilean director's thwarted Frank Herbert adaptation (ultimately mishandled by David Lynch in 1984).
