DreamWorks is in exclusive talks to acquire the rights to London attorney-turned-author M. L. Stedman's WWI-set debut novel "The Light Between Oceans." The story centers on a lighthouse keeping couple faced with a dilemma when a ship washes ashore carrying an infant and a dead man. After choosing to raise the child as their own, they face devastating consequences.

David Heyman, of the "Harry Potter" franchise and Alfonso Cuaron's upcoming sci-fi mystery "Gravity," is set to produce.

Stedman's novel was published in 2011, and has been translated into nearly 30 languages. A new 2013 edition is set for the UK.
