WATCH: Matt Damon Ratchets Up the Badass Charm in New 'Elysium' Trailer

The second trailer for Neill Blomkamp's spectacular-looking sci-fi entry "Elysium" (August 8) has arrived. This one plays up Matt Damon's innate likability -- in the film he stars as an illness-stricken everyman who reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission against the wealthy Elysium metropolis' head secretary of state (Jodie Foster). Watch below.

The second trailer for Neill Blomkamp's spectacular-looking sci-fi entry "Elysium" (August 8) has arrived. This one plays up Matt Damon's innate likability -- in the film he stars as an illness-stricken everyman who reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission against the wealthy Elysium metropolis' head secretary of state (Jodie Foster). Watch below.

The film is Blomkamp's follow-up to 2009's popular and Oscar-nominated "District 9." The star of that film, Sharlto Copley, also has a villainous role in "Elysium." 

Fans flipped over the initial footage of the film at last year's Comic-Con, where we got a video interview with Blomkamp and recorded the Hall H panel with Damon and Foster. The first trailer for the film is here.

Thompson on Hollywood

Born and raised in Manhattan, Anne Thompson grew up going to the Thalia and The New Yorker and wound up at grad Cinema Studies at NYU. She worked at United Artists and Film Comment before heading west as that magazine's west coast editor. She wrote for the LA Weekly, Sight and Sound, Empire, The New York Times and Entertainment Weekly before serving as West Coast Editor of Premiere. She wrote for The Washington Post, The London Observer, Wired, More, and Vanity Fair, and did staff stints at The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. She eventually took her blog Thompson on Hollywood to Indiewire. She taught film criticism at USC Critical Studies, and continues to host the fall semester of “Sneak Previews” for UCLA Extension.
