The distrib is taking out the doc in thirteen markets day-and-date with simultaneous distribution On Demand and through digital download channels on June 18, two years after the first gay marriage rites in California.
Written and directed by journalist and ex-Mormon missionary Reed Cowan, 8: The Mormon Proposition is narrated by Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk). Set in California and Utah, the doc exposes the Mormon Church's role in fighting gay rights and marriage and promoting the passage of California's Proposition 8 (a challenge to the gay marriage ban failed to make it onto the 2010 ballot).

“We felt that this was an important conversation to have and this was the best way to get it out to people," says Kim.
"Having those see it in markets where we will not be theatrically makes the most sense and increases the viewing capability of this very important story,” adds Federbush.
The film is produced by Cowan, Steven Greenstreet, (who co-directed), Chris Volz and Emily Pearson for David V. Goliath Productions, with Cowan and Bruce Bastian as executive producers.
Kim and Federbush will be attending Cannes to hunt for new titles for the fledging distrib to release. "We're watching a lot of movies," says Kim.

It sounds like a cool film. I hope it's better than MILK! I disagree with your suggestion that I need to go out and talk with the people who've facilitated proposition 8, the Mormons. I'm not religious, and it seems absurd to have a religious conversation with an absolutist.
My faith rests in the federal court system. The voters of California chose to side with the Mormon, Catholic, and christianist liars.
