In the Works: J.K. Rowling to Pen First Screenplay, Set in the Wizarding World 70 Years Prior to Harry Potter

Warner Bros. has announced an expanded creative partnership with "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling. She will make her screenwriting debut with "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," the first in a planned series of new films, inspired by Harry Potter's Hogwarts textbook.

Ian McKellen has been tapped to star as Sherlock Holmes in Bill Condon's adaptation of the 2005 novel "A Slight Trick of the Mind" by Mitch Cullin, which is set in 1947 and imagines a much older, retired Holmes.

Jason Reitman is bringing his latest film "Labor Day," starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin, to Toronto, but he's also reportedly lining up his next project. The director is circling an adaptation of Chad Kultgen's novel "Men, Women and Children," with Adam Sandler, Jennifer Garner and Rosemarie DeWitt in talks for lead roles.

The book focuses on Presley's young transformation from a high school student to an instant sensation in the radical new world of rock n' roll.

In the Works: Documentary on Disney's Imagineers (TRAILER)

Disney has a documentary in the works that will go behind the scenes and into the history of its Imagineers, the division tasked with designing the studio's theme parks and rides. Lesley Iwerks, the granddaughter of Mickey Mouse co-creator Ub Iwerks, is set to direct. Check out the trailer for the film, introduced at last weekend's D23 expo, below.

Harvey Weinstein and Disney Bury the Hatchet, Team for Live-Action Adaptation of 'Artemis Fowl'

Never say never. Harvey Weinstein, who in 2005 left Disney and his Miramax Films following intense disagreements with chief exec Michael Eisner, is now on board for an adaptation of "Artemis Fowl" for the Mouse House. Weinstein, but not the Weinstein Company, is set to produce.

In the Works: Paul Greengrass in Talks to Helm 'Trial of the Chicago 7,' from Aaron Sorkin's Script

Director Paul Greengrass is in final talks to helm "The Trial of the Chicago 7," from a script by Aaron Sorkin. The much-delayed film follows a defining moment of 1960s American history: the trial of the seven individuals charged with conspiracy and rioting during the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The project at one point had Steven Spielberg attached.
