Empire Magazine's Jameson Awards Honor 'Skyfall' as Best Film of 2012, Helen Mirren Makes Plea for More Women in Film

The Jameson Empire Awards for the best films of 2012 were handed out in London on March 24, with Sam Mendes taking top honors as Best Director, and 23rd Bond installment "Skyfall" receiving Best Picture as well as the Empire Award. Helen Mirren, who was honored with the Empire Legend award, noted that in Mendes' acceptance speech, none of his favorite classic film moments feature a woman behind the camera. Bond Hit 'Skyfall' Releases on DVD and Blu-ray February 12; All Six Bonds At the Academy Awards

Bond box-office hit "Skyfall" is making its way to Blu-ray and DVD on February 12 in North America and February 18 in the UK. The film will release on DigitalHD across all digital stores (including Amazon and iTunes) on February 5.

Adele to Perform Oscar-Nominated 'Skyfall' at Academy Awards Live for First Time Ever

As promised by Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, Adele is confirmed to perform "Skyfall" at the Academy Awards on February 24. This will be the first time ever the singer has performed the Oscar-nominated song live, and marks her first U.S. television performance since last year's Grammys.

85th Oscars to Include a Tribute to James Bond Franchise

The 85th Oscars ceremony (February 26) will include a tribute to the James Bond franchise, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012. 007 may have more of a presence at the Academy Awards than initially predicted, with the recent Producers Guild Award nominations -- often a bellwether for Oscar Best Picture nods -- including "Skyfall" in its ten Picture selections.

Post-Holiday Weekend Box Office: Three Top Films Battle for Placement

Three juggernauts grossing $28 million or more dominated a strong post-Christmas weekend, all jockeying for position since last Tuesday. The shakeout led to the top film on December 25 ("Les Miserables") falling to third by the weekend, beat out by top dog "The Hobbit" followed by "Django Unchained." But all three films contributed to a weekend total more than 20% above last year's results.

'Dark Knight Rises' is YouTube's Most Viewed Movie Trailer of the Year; Top Ten Most-Watched Videos

Google reports that the most viewed trailer of the year was from a video game: Activision's "Call of Duty Black Ops 2." On the movie side, the most viewed movie trailer was Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises." Seth MacFarlane's "Ted," "Hunger Games," and "Skyfall" were also in the mix. Only one television show was a factor: NBC and J.J. Abrams' "Revolution." YouTube calculated both number of views, the length of time people watched the clip, and how many people sought out the clip (searching rather than clicking on an ad). Here's their Top Ten:

'Skyfall' Opening Credits: How Mendes Got Adele for 'the first good Bond song' and A Look at Past Openers and Songs (VIDEO)

One of the joys of "Skyfall" is its darkly psychedelic opening credit sequence, which combines to great effect Adele's soaring song with the iconic Bond graphics overlaid on Daniel Craig's sinking figure. We're basically watching Bond's fall into death as images pass before his eyes. Sam Mendes' latest installment in the franchise is crammed with purposeful references to 007 films of yore, but perhaps the best is that hit song. Music has long been used to sell movies, but never more than with the Bond franchise.

Whenever any movie, even yet another James Bond sequel, gets the kind of rave reviews and business earned by "Skyfall," the inevitable awards speculation occurs. Will it get Oscar nominations? 'Skyfall' Breaks IMAX Non-Summer Records with $12.75 Domestic Haul on 320 Screens

IMAX has posted its weekend "Skyfall" box office numbers: the 23rd James Bond film took in an impressive $12.75 million on 320 screens, resulting in an approximate $40K per-screen average. This is IMAX's best opening weekend ever in non-summer months.
