Several Telluride titles are debuting in Venice, from John Hillcoat's The Road (which has a new poster and clips online) to Todd Solondz's Life During Wartime and Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, starring Nic Cage.
At a Venice press conference, Herzog denied ever having seen the Abel Ferrara NC-17 1992 original, and wants to show him his post-Katrina "warped fairy tale" (as described by co-star Eva Mendes). Ferrara is bringing his film Napoli, Napoli to Venice so Herzog may get his wish. Variety calls it offbeat, silly, disarming and loopy.
At Telluride, Life During Wartime screens Saturday, and Bad Lieutenant on Sunday.
