'The Purge'
Entering the Best Foreign-Language submission fray is "Purge," Finland's official entry for the 2013 Oscars. The film beat out 35 other local entries, and is currently topping Finland's box office charts with a $923K haul.

"Purge" is directed by Antti Jokinen, adapted from the internationally bestselling novel of the same title by Sofi Oksanen, which follows two women from different eras (one a 1990s Russian sex slave with more than a hint of Lisbeth Salander, the other a farm worker living in 1950s Soviet-occupied Estonia) connected by a disturbing throughline. Check out the trailer below.

Our round-up of other countries' Foreign-Language submissions is here (and Canada recently submitted "War Witch," more info here), with October 1 as the deadline for submission.
