Check out the first official photo of Russell Crowe as the titular ark captain in Darren Aronofsky's "Noah." (The first glimpse of the legendary ark can be seen here.) While a few other prominent (and younger) names were attached to the role and then dropped out (Christian Bale and Michael Fassbender), Crowe looks capable and rugged enough to shepherd the world's animals through troubled waters. How many Hollywood actors can grow a beard like that?

Paramount's "Noah" is shooting on location in Iceland and is scheduled for a March 2014 release. The film's roster of co-stars includes Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Hopkins as Methuselah.
