The filmmakers didn't want the movie to devolve into a mash-up, says Goddard. "There is an overall aesthetic to where we didn't want the thing to feel schizophrenic while we reference other movies. It stands alone."
Goddard admits that Whedon was his partner in crime. "He was there when I needed him. I'd send up the the Joss signal and he's come to my side." But Goddard comes out of this as a credible writer-director. He's been working with Steven Spielberg penning multiple drafts of DreamWorks' upcoming sci-fi epic "Robopocalypse," a hard-science look at the future "if technology turns on us," he says. Spielberg is in pre-production now; it's set for release by Fox in July 2013.
Lionsgate's first "Cabin in the Woods" clip introed a fatal truth-or-date game, posted here and below, while the second clip continues this horror/comedy mash-up, with only four of the original five -- the sexy blonde is missing. Hmmm.
"Cabin in the Woods" also stars Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz and Jesse Williams.
