Fox Searchlight to Rerelease 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' in Wake of Four Oscar Nominations

Fox Searchlight Pictures will re-release Benh Zeitlin’s "Beasts of the Southern Wild," which last week was nominated for four Oscars including picture, director, adapted screenplay and the youngest best actress nominee ever, Quvezhane Wallis. The film will play in select cities on January 18, a year after the movie debuted at Sundance and took home the grand jury prize and excellence in cinematography award.

Fox Searchlight Pictures will re-release Benh Zeitlin’s "Beasts of the Southern Wild," which last week was nominated for four Oscars including picture, director, adapted screenplay and the youngest best actress nominee ever, Quvezhane Wallis. The film will play in rerelease in select cities on January 18, a year after the movie debuted at Sundance and took home the grand jury prize and excellence in cinematography award. The film will open in markets including Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, Miami and Washington, DC in addition to New York City and Los Angeles, where it returns to Manhattan’s Sunshine and Lincoln Plaza theaters and Los Angeles’ Landmark 12 in Westwood.

Thompson on Hollywood

Born and raised in Manhattan, Anne Thompson grew up going to the Thalia and The New Yorker and wound up at grad Cinema Studies at NYU. She worked at United Artists and Film Comment before heading west as that magazine's west coast editor. She wrote for the LA Weekly, Sight and Sound, Empire, The New York Times and Entertainment Weekly before serving as West Coast Editor of Premiere. She wrote for The Washington Post, The London Observer, Wired, More, and Vanity Fair, and did staff stints at The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. She eventually took her blog Thompson on Hollywood to Indiewire. She taught film criticism at USC Critical Studies, and continues to host the fall semester of “Sneak Previews” for UCLA Extension.
