Tribeca Review: Experimental Shorts Series 'Let There Be Light' Turns the Simple Into the Intense

Thirteen experimental short films screened in the "Let There Be Light: The Cycles of Life" series at the Tribeca Film Festival. Each of the films was loosely connected by the "profound artistic influence of light" in film. Some of the films highlighted the power of sunlight, flickering through trees or dousing harvests. Others took inspiration from artificial light sources or the moon's glow. Each of them relied on relatively simple imagery and narration in order to tap into something mythic and intense.

Academy Opens All 24 Categories to All Voting Members

The rule change dictates that prior to the final round of voting, the Academy will provide members with DVDs of the nominated films in five categories: Foreign Language Film, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Animated Short Film, and Live Action Short Film.

Tribeca Film Festival to Stream Seven Official Selections Online, and Host Vine's #6SECFILM Competition

The Tribeca Film Festival (April 17-28) announced today that it will stream seven 2013 fest selections -- four of which are premiere titles -- to allow domestic US audiences the chance experience the festival from across the country. Also streaming will be Tribeca's first-ever Vine Competition, #6SECFILM.
