Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" won best original screenplay and supporting actor Christoph Waltz; his screenplay competitor Michael Haneke accepted the best foreign film prize for "Amour" from fellow Austrian Arnold Schwarzenegger.
As expected, "Les Miserables" won the Musical/Comedy category with wins for Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, making it the big winner of the night with three Globes, while Jennifer Lawrence won for "Silver Linings Playbook." "Zero Dark Thirty" won best actress drama for Jessica Chastain. Daniel Day-Lewis continued his unstoppable winning streak for best actor in drama "Lincoln."
At the lively after-parties throughout the Beverly Hilton, the show was deemed entertaining and unexpected, for once, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler earning high marks as hosts, and life achievement award-winner Jodie Foster giving what amounted to a coming out speech.
Still, the HFPA of about 90 voters neither represents nor forecasts what the 5700 members of the Academy will do when they cast their final Oscar votes.
