Hollywood Reporter Poaches Associate Publisher from LA Times

Richard Beckman, CEO of e5 Global Media, owner of The Hollywood Reporter, has poached the LAT's movie advertising director, Michaela Apruzzese, to be associate publisher, entertainment of The Hollywood Reporter. She sounds like she has the right skill set for the job. Apruzzese will oversee entertainment industry advertising for THR's print, event and digital platforms. She starts in early June and reports to new publisher Lori Burgess, who replaced Erik Mica. “Michaela’s rich array of advertising and marketing experience across print, broadcast and digital in both trade and consumer media will be an important asset to The Hollywood Reporter,” stated Beckman. Prior to the LAT, Apruzzese was publisher of Law.com and National Law Journal and west coast sales director for Robb Report.

Thompson on Hollywood

Born and raised in Manhattan, Anne Thompson grew up going to the Thalia and The New Yorker and wound up at grad Cinema Studies at NYU. She worked at United Artists and Film Comment before heading west as that magazine's west coast editor. She wrote for the LA Weekly, Sight and Sound, Empire, The New York Times and Entertainment Weekly before serving as West Coast Editor of Premiere. She wrote for The Washington Post, The London Observer, Wired, More, and Vanity Fair, and did staff stints at The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. She eventually took her blog Thompson on Hollywood to Indiewire. She taught film criticism at USC Critical Studies, and continues to host the fall semester of “Sneak Previews” for UCLA Extension.
