The Santa Barbara International Film Festival will honor producer/actor Michael Douglas with the 2011 Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film, the award named in his father’s honor. Michael Douglas (producer of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, star of Fatal Attraction, Wall Street, and Traffic) has won two Academy Awards, the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, a SAG Award, 6 Golden Globe nominations, and 4 Emmy Nominations. Douglas will be honored in Santa Barbara on October 13, 2011.

“The first time I saw Michael Douglas act was in a play at UC Santa Barbara, so it is fitting that a career that started here should be honored here,” said his father, Kirk Douglas, continuing:

To tell the truth, I wanted Michael to be a lawyer. I secretly hoped he would be bad so I could tell him to forget it. He wasn’t. But as proud as I am of his achievements on screen, I am even prouder of the humanitarian work he has done for the United Nations and other organizations. I am very happy to give this award to my favorite actor/producer who also happens to be my firstborn son.

The Screen Actors Guild will honor Mary Tyler Moore with the 2011 Life Achievement Award on January 29, 2012 for creating “a new paradigm for female leads in television.” Moore has won seven Emmys, a Tony, and an Academy Award nomination. She first captured the national attention when she was cast as Dick Van Dyke’s wife in his eponymous sitcom at just 23 and then continued making waves on television in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which premiered in 1970.

Tony Walton, the Academy Award winning Art Director and Set Designer, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Art Director’s Guild’s 16th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards in February 2012. Walton began his career over fifty years ago, designing for film, Broadway, and TV, including Marry Poppins, The Wiz, Murder on the Orient Express and his Emmy-award winning design for Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. ADG President Tom Walsh called him a “whirling dervish whose career encompasses designing sets, costumes, and graphics for the theatre, opera, ballet, film, television and publishing.”
